Hey, I'm MiKayla.

Hey, I'm MiKayla, and I went on a trip to Paris. But not just any trip. This was my trip. Well, and nine other students' trips. And ...

Hey, I'm officially in Paris.

So I'm officially in Paris. Upon my arrival into this super big gigantic city I failed to grasp the enormity of this fact. When I got here I was wandering around with my suitcase just trying to keep up with my group and struggling to say the names of places on signs and grabbing coffee before I passed out on the floor of the airport. I was in a city. I could tell. There were a lot of people. But I'm not just in a city. I'm in Paris.

First sign I'm in Paris: the people speak French. Pretty surprising, amiright? The greatest part of this fact is that I, in fact, do not speak French. But hey, I'm trying. We stopped at a little sandwich shop along the street heading back to our dorm building, and I tested out my language skills by ordering in French. It all worked out and the guy behind the counter was pretty impressed until he said something back and I just gave him a blank stare. That was the end of my French facade. But I was still pretty proud.

Second sign I'm in Paris: there's the Eiffel Tower. I would describe it, but I'm sure you know what it looks like. All I can say is that no matter how many pictures you see, no matter how many times you hear about the Eiffel Tower, nothing compares to just seeing the real thing. That's the only way I can describe it. It's surreal.

Third and final sign (for now) that I'm in Paris: I'm completely and utterly and irrevocably in love with the food. For real. For lunch I filled up on a croque monsieur (pretty much a ham sandwich), a salad, and an espresso. Keep in mind, however, that this was no regular ham sandwich. It was a ham sandwich on steroids. Not in the sense that it was huge, but in the sense that it was ten times better than a normal ham sandwich. Ten times better. For dinner, I had a chicken sandwich, which was just as tasty. There was nothing specifically special about the sandwich, but it tasted. for lack of a better word, more real than those from home. It was good.

More than the food itself, so far I have enjoyed the love of the food I have found in this city across the pond. People aren't just selective about their food and eat REAL food but they also enjoy the food. They relish the food. I can't remember the last time I've just sat down for a really long time and ate slowly. Not quickly. Slowly.

So that's my first day in Paris. My first observations. Hopefully they have been a little entertaining or enlightening. Either way, I'm officially in Paris. So the adventure begins.

Until next time and au revoir. M
